Welcome, momma! Since you are reading this, I am assuming your baby is dealing with eczema! This can be a tough journey if it is your first time navigating it. Sometimes, eczema can make your little one fussy as it can be irritating & itchy. If your baby is fussy at nighttime, trying to sleep, it could be due to their eczema!
That is why I wanted to create a how to baby eczema post – to help all you mommas out there trying to navigate this.
When my first little one got eczema, it got really bad. To the point it was bright red, raised up and almost bleeding. You could tell he was uncomfortable. When he went in for a well child visit, his pediatrician recommended I put Vaseline or Aquaphor on it. I gave him a bath and tried that, only to wake up the next morning to his eczema being worse! Maybe these methods could work for you, but I would not recommend them!
At that point, I took matters into my own hands.
So let’s look at a how to baby eczema treatment, both natural and a product you can buy that cleared my little one’s eczema up overnight.
Natural Treatment for Baby Eczema
For starters, I took a natural approach at treating my little one’s baby eczema. For this, I gave him an oatmeal bath. I found that this actually really helped, although it took time and it didn’t totally clear it up.
It did take away the redness and seemed to calm it down dramatically though. I did this about every other night for a couple weeks. If you want to try oatmeal baths, you can use rolled oats or quick oats, either will work. Put them in a nylon stocking (tie it at the end) and put it in the bathtub. Allow your little one to soak for 15 minutes, using the creamy “soap” that comes out of the oatmeal.
**don’t use any baby soap during this time. Natural or not. Soap tends to make the eczema worse, so just use the oatmeal to bathe them!
I would recommend trying this for a few weeks. Again, you aren’t going to see your baby’s eczema clear up overnight with this, but it should help over time! You may see the redness go down overnight though.
In my opinion, I would try the oatmeal baths along with the cream I am going to talk about next.
Era Organics Super Balm
It is an understatement when I say that this stuff is amazing. I wish I would have taken pictures of the before and after on my baby when using this product. Because you wouldn’t believe the results. I’m not kidding, this balm cleared up my baby’s eczema overnight. You could obviously still see it a little in the morning, but the redness was gone, the bumps were gone and it wasn’t irritating him anymore!
Again, my baby had eczema so bad that it was almost bleeding. It was rough to the touch, red and raised up. I gave him an oatmeal bath and used this balm after before putting him to bed. I only used it a few times and it did wonders! He hasn’t had his eczema come back since. There are a few times when he will have a dry patch of skin and I’ll use the balm, but overall I haven’t had to use it since!
There is so much I love about this balm. First, because IT WORKS. There are so many products out there and you don’t know which ones work and don’t. Not to mention that most of those products are filled with ingredients I wouldn’t want to put on my skin – let alone on my baby’s skin!
Era Organics Super Balm is USDA certified organic, which means it is non-toxic & chemical free. It is made for sensitive skin so it has a natural, hypoallergenic formula. This cream is also paraben free, alcohol free, fragrance free and contains no toxins, phthalates, petrolatum, mineral oil and is cruelty-free. I also love that this is used for more than just baby eczema. That is what I used it for, but you can also use it for:
- cradle cap
- chapped nose
- dry skin
- damaged skin
- baby acne
So even if you are buying this for your baby’s eczema, you will be able to use it for multiple purposes! I also love the ingredients they use. They are ingredients I trust:
- chamomile extract
- sunflower oil
- calendula oil
- coconut oil
- avocado oil
- gluten free oats
I love this because each one of these ingredients is added for a reason, not just as a filler. For example, chamomile helps relieve itchy, dry and irritated skin while soothing inflammation. It is high in antioxidants too! And, sunflower oil helps maintain that barrier on your skin to prevent water loss (which helps keep your skin moisturized). So with the ingredients they have chosen, they are aiming at:
- soothing itchy and dry skin
- reducing inflammation
- improving healthy blood circulation
- boost recovery
- providing deep hydration
- strenghtening skin fibers
I can say that I have seen every one of those proven by using this on my baby myself. So if you are looking for a product to use for your baby’s eczema, I would highly recommend using this. Honestly, I wouldn’t even try anything else. This one is affordable, effective and it has ingredients that I love and trust.
Proof is in the Pictures
Now, like I said I forgot to take pictures of my own little one before using this. So the after pictures wouldn’t be much help. But, I do have some pictures from other mommas who have found this to work wonders on their babies as well 🙂
